With more and more people going vegan all the time (hooray!), it’s not hard to find vegan pizza options, especially in a vegan friendly place like Austin, TX. If you’re vegan and also gluten free though, it can be a little trickier since not all pizza places have gluten free crusts, and if they do, some gluten free crusts contain non-vegan ingredients like eggs, dairy, or honey.
So I created this pizza guide for all of the gluten free vegans out there (and the gf/dairy free peeps). If you’re vegan but not gluten free, check out The Lazy Smurf’s Austin Vegan Pizza Guide!
I’ve sampled quite a few of these options (as pictured) but not all. If I missed anywhere, please let me know! Have you tried any places that have vegan and gluten free pizza in Austin? Let me know in the comments!
Notes: I’ve done my best to make sure this guide is accurate, but I also recommend double checking to make sure everything is gluten free enough for your preferences and vegan as well, especially if it’s not listed as vegan on the menu/website since recipes and ingredients can change. The options are listed with the one’s I’ve tried first, then the rest.
Vegan & Gluten-free Crust with Vegan Cheese
Li’l Nonna’s (East Riverside)
Li’l Nonna’s is a vegan pizza trailer that has housemade vegan/gf crust (10″), cheeses, and meats! I love the “meat out” pizza with beeteroni and spicy tempeh. They also have a deep dish gluten free crust that’s really good, but it isn’t always available, so check ahead of time. They deliver through Favor and Uber Eats. Update 2020: Li’l Nonnas is now located on St. Elmo (it used to be next to The Buzzmill on Riverside.)
MOD Pizza (multiple locations)
MOD Pizza is a build-your-own pizza chain that offers vegan/gf crust and Daiya cheese with locations on Riverside, Mueller Market, and the Village at Westgate. Three of their sauces are vegan (red, BBQ, & garlic rub). I love that toppings are unlimited and how quick they are. Their ingredients and allergens are listed here.
Flaming Pizza (North)
Flaming Pizza is a build your own pizza place at The Domain next to iPic that has a vegan/gluten free crust and vegan cheese. All of their sauces are vegan except for the white sauce. I love piling on veggies there since toppings are unlimited.
Austin’s Pizza (Various locations, delivers)
Austin’s Pizza is an Austin pizza chain that offers Smart Flour Foods 10″ gluten free crusts. You can build your own vegan pizza with veggies and Follow Your Heart vegan mozzarella. The tomato sauce is vegan (the alfredo and pesto have cheese and the buffalo and bbq contain honey.) They deliver, but not to where I live.
Counter Culture (Eastside)
Counter Culture is an all vegan restaurant that offers a daily pizza special and has a gluten free option–they use Smart Flour Foods 10″ crusts as well. I like Smart Flour Foods gf crust, but I make it at home often, so I don’t usually order it when I’m out. I tried one here once a while ago though, and the homemade cheese was tasty.
More vegan/gluten free crust with vegan cheese (I haven’t tried these):
True Food Kitchen (Central & North) has vegan/gf crust/seasonal pizzas with vegan cheese. Double check to make sure the gf crust is vegan. I’ve tried their non-gluten free vegan pizza, and it’s delicious.
Eastside Pies (Eastside & North locations, delivers) Has vegan/gf crust (10″), vegan cheese, and a variety of vegan sauces (hummus, black bean, marinara, spinach curry, tomatillo, chimmuchurri, and pesto).
Conan’s Pizza (North, South, Central, delivers) Has vegan/gf crust (10″) and Daiya.
The Pizza Press (Central) Has a vegan/gf crust and Dayia.
North Door Pizza (Eastside) They don’t have info. about their pizza online but according to Lazy Smurf they have vegan/gf crust & cheese.
Spartan Pizza (Eastside) Has a 10″ vegan/gf crust and Daiya.
Marye’s Gourmet Pizza Pub (Westlake Hills) Has Smart Flour Foods crust and Daiya.
Mangieri’s Pizza Cafe (South) Has Smart Flour Foods crust and Daiya.
Pie Five Pizza Co. (Pflugerville) Has a vegan/gf crust and Daiya.
Pizza Rev (Round Rock) Build your own pizza place that has vegan/gf crust and Daiya. Four of the sauces are vegan: organic tomato, spicy organic tomato, sweet & bold BBQ, and olive oil. They also have vegan sausage, but it’s not gluten free. Their allergen info is listed here.
Promise Pizza (Round Rock) Has Smart Flour Foods crust and Daiya.
Mellow Mushroom (Round Rock) Has Smart Flour Foods crust and Daiya.
Vegan & gluten-free Crust (no vegan cheese)
Wildwood Bakehouse (Central) is a gluten free restaurant and bakery–their 9″ pizza crusts are also vegan.
Brick Oven on 35th (Central) Offers the “Spicy Vegan” with chipotle pesto, tomatoes, red bell peppers, onion, garlic, and jalapenos and has Smart Flour Foods crust.
Other places that have Smart Flour Foods crust (according to the locator), but not vegan cheese (ask about sauces & verify crust):
Pinthouse Pizza (Central & North)
Mr. Gatti’s (various locations) Allergen list here.
Alamo Drafthouse (various locations, menus vary)
360 Pizza (various locations)
Gusto Italian Kitchen/Wine Bar (North)
Mangia Pizza (various locations)
Brooklyn Pie Co (various locations)
Lakeside Pizza & Grill (Northwest)
Prima Pizza Pasta (North)
The Uptown Social (Georgetown)
The following are listed on the Smart Flour locator but don’t mention having gf on the menu & may or may not have them:
Vegan Options (not gluten free)
To save you the time if you’re wondering, the following places have vegan pizza options, but don’t offer gluten free/vegan crusts:
Blaze Pizza used to have a gluten free vegan crust but recently (June 2019) changed their gluten free option to a non-vegan cauliflower crust, which is disappointing because I loved their vegan and gluten free pizza. They still have regular vegan crust, vegan cheese, and spicy vegan chorizo.
Via 313 detroit style pizza is delicious, and they have vegan pizza with Follow Your Heart cheese, but unfortunately their gluten free crust is NOT vegan.
Bistro Vonish– Bistro Vonish is an all vegan food trailer that does have delicious gluten free items on the menu, but their pizzas aren’t gluten free.
Hoboken Pizza has Daiya and house-made vegan tofu ricotta, but no gluten free crust.
The Parlor– The Parlor has vegan cheese and house made vegan meats, but their gluten free crusts are NOT vegan.
Closed
Update June 2019: I’m sad to report that the South Austin Z Pizza location closed. Z Pizza is a vegan-friendly pizza chain with a location on Slaughter Lane that has a vegan/gluten free crust, Daiya, and Beyond Meat crumbles. They have a vegan pizza on the menu (The Berkley vegan), which I get sometimes, but I also often build my own and just load up on veggies with no cheese. I like their gluten free crust (it’s a little sweet–yum.) All of their vegan & gluten free options are listed here. They have a good cash sale Mon.-Thurs. as well.
Update 2020: Rockin Tomato (Central) is now closed. Rockin Tomato is a pizza restaurant and bar on South Lamar that has live music and offers a house milled 10″ vegan and gluten free organic whole grains crust and vegan cheese. I tried it for the first time recently and enjoyed it–I’d ask for extra sauce next time though.
