One night I decided to see if I could use the flavors in my vegan ranch to create popcorn seasoning…and it came out delicious! The little bit of sugar in the mix gives it the “cool” ranch flavor, but you can leave it out for a more classic ranch. I created this seasoning for popcorn, but it would be delicious on a variety of savory foods like potatoes, rice, tofu, etc. You could also use it to make chips–I haven’t tried it yet, but when I do, I’ll add an update.
Popcorn is one of my favorite snacks (maybe even my all time fave snack!), and when made without oil, it’s a healthy way to get in some whole grains, and in this case, greens as well! You may think I’m reaching a bit here, but herbs and spices are actually antioxidant rich, something I learned in How Not to Die (a book packed with vital nutrition information that I highly recommend, by the way).
According to Dr. Greger’s Daily Dozen app, 3 cups of popped popcorn count as one serving of whole grains…which I take as an excuse to have a huge bowl most evenings.
I use this this microwave popper to make oil-free popcorn–you just add kernels to the bowl, put the top on, and microwave for 2-3 minutes–it’s super quick and easy.
This recipe makes enough for a liberal amount on two jumbo bowls of popcorn for me–but it depends on how much you use. You could always halve it if you want less leftover.
Now that I created this recipe, I have other seasonings ideas as well, so stay tuned!
