Costume/Cosplay Ideas: River Vixens at Cheer Practice

Looking for an easy Riverdale costume for Halloween or cosplay? The River Vixens cheer practice outfits are iconic, comfortable, and fairly easy to put together.

The first thing you need is a white and yellow raglan three quarters baseball tee. The one they wear on the show is from Urban Outfitters and isn’t available anymore (this handy site shows some of the clothes they wear on the show), but there are similar ones on Amazon. You can also check for used baseball tees–I’ve seen some similar ones on Ebay and Poshmark. Hot Topic also has a Riverdale raglan top (as well as interlock shorts and cheer outfits), but unlike the show, it says “Riverdale Vixens” on it.

Luckily the same shorts they wear on the show are still available–they’re American Apparel interlock running shorts in navy and white, and you can get them on Amazon or directly from American Apparel.

If you’re going as Cheryl or it’s cold where you are, you can also opt for navy blue or black leggings (bonus points if they’re high waisted/have a white stripe down the sides) that Cheryl/a few other girls wear.

The standard outfit also includes white knee socks with yellow stripes-I’m not sure exactly which ones they wear on the show (maybe American Apparel but they don’t carry that color anymore), but these look similar and there are others on Amazon as well. If you’re going as Cheryl, she wears white and yellow cheer ankle socks with megaphones like these. Epic Sports also carries some (Update 2020: They don’t seem to carry them anymore sadly.)

The last thing you need are plain white sneakers–it looks like the main characters wear plain canvas ones like Keds.

Variations

Cheryl Blossom

Cheryl’s baseball tee has “HBIC” on the back (there’s a photo of it further down in this post) and unlike the rest of the team, it’s cropped. In the dance off scene with Veronica, she wears black leggings, and in other scenes, she wears shorts, either way, she wears white and yellow megaphone cheer ankle socks. Her hair is always down, perfectly curled, and she wears red or bold pink lipstick, often with earrings or a choker as well.

(Checkout my Cheryl Vixens look, as well as my other Cheryl cosplay and my Cheryl style posts as well!)

Veronica Lodge & Betty Cooper

Betty and Veronica wear the standard cheer practice outfits–Betty always wears her blonde hair in a ponytail, and Veronica sometimes wears a pearl necklace. In Season 2 Episode 17, Veronica also wears a Team Varchie version of the baseball tee.

Josie McCoy

Josie sports the standard outfit as well and usually wears her hair up in buns, sometimes with gold hoops. In Season 2 Episode 17, she wears a Team Rosie tee.

Toni Topaz

Toni’s cheer outfit is unique and so cute–she wears fishnets under her shorts, ties her baseball tee to make it a crop top, and her white sneakers have yellow pom poms on them (I couldn’t get a good picture, but it’s in Season 2 Episode 16), and of course, her pink highlighted hair is iconic.

Anyone out there planning on going as a Riverdale character for Halloween? Who’s your favorite Riverdale Vixen? Let me know in the comments!
