While January seemed to drag on forever, February flew by, and I have quite a few favorites to share! I’ve been busy the last week or so too, so most of these are from the first couple of weeks of February.
VEGAN & GLUTEN FREE FOOD
I did quite a bit of cooking and baking in February (and I started a new series to document my cooking adventures!)–one of my favorites recipes was this amazing Sharp Cheddar Cheese Balls recipe from Vedged Out. The cheese is actually raw and pretty easy to make (you just have to soak the cashews overnight), and it was so flavorful and creamy–Lucas and I devoured it all, and I’m looking forward to making them again and again. Honestly I’m getting hungry again just thinking about it.
Another recipe I loved this month were these Buffalo Cauliflower Wings from Chocolate Covered Katie with Vegan Ranch from The Vegan 8. I wrote a separate post about them if you want to check it out/make them! I also loved this Nut-Free Mac and Cheese from Sweet Potato Soul.
And in case you missed it, I also wrote a post about how to make vegan chocolate frogs from Harry Potter, which were definitely a fave as well!
Restaurant wise, some of my favorites this month were the black truffle fries from The Beer Plant, the Jackfruit pizza special from Lil Nonna’s (which is gone now sadly, and I didn’t get a photo, but it was SO good), and blackened tofu quinoa salad and baked rosemary fries from Conscious Cravings. I wish they had gluten free wraps because I think the salad would be even better in a wrap, but it’s still good regardless.
Beauty
One of my beauty favorites from February was the Paramour Bath Bomb that I picked up from Sacred Secrets, a local Austin shop that makes vegan witchy bath goodies. The Paramour Bath Bomb made my bath pink but didn’t irritate my skin because it’s colored with beet root powder (some artificial red colors like ones from Lush have irritated me in the past), and left my skin soft and smelling like roses! The witches soap also has a crystal in it!
CLOTHING
My wardrobe is basically half Hauntwell tees at this point…ok not quite, but I do have four now, and I love them all! I live for their sigil designs and how comfy they are.
Youtube
One of the Youtubers I want to mention this month is Brown Bunny Meli–the first couple of her videos that I watched were about Stranger Things–I love geeking out about TV shows that I love, and her Season 2 Spoiler Review was on point! She also makes videos about vegan and cruelty free beauty (highlighting POC owned brands and green beauty brands) and mental health, and her Instagram is full of adorable selfies and intersectional feminism–hell yes!
I also found a new (to me) Youtuber Jholmie through Logical Harmony’s channel. Jessica makes vegan and cruelty free beauty videos, and you can tell she really puts a lot of thought and effort into them, and I appreciate how straightforward she is about her thoughts on products and everything. I love watching her reviews (especially since I too have dry skin) and fun tutorials. I’ve been curious about the Goddess Provision boxes too so I’m glad she shared those too–I haven’t seen many others talk about them. (I still haven’t ordered the box yet though–there are so many goddess/witchy themed boxes I can’t commit lol.)
Blogs/Instagram
You know those Instagram accounts you find and you just love every single one of the photos in their feed? Ally aka @hellokalequeen is one of those for me–her feed is so magical and gorgeous, I can’t get enough of her self portraits and witchy photos! (She has a Youtube channel linked in her profile too, but it only has one video, so I’m hoping there will be more in the future.) PS–I’m always looking for more vegan witchy babes to follow so if you know of any let me know!
Another blogger I’ve been following for a while and want to mention this month is Luna Lovecow! Her name drew me in right away, and she blogs about vegan food and cruelty free beauty. I’ve tried a couple of her recipes and both were successes (Cesar salad & Cashew Carbonara), and I’ve also been reading her London food posts because I may make a trip there this year. She also has some helpful vegan hair color reviews and other miscellaneous posts (like visiting the Harry Potter Studio Tour!)
TV/Movies
Earlier this month Lucas and I got into the show The Strain, a high concept horror series created by Guerillmo del Toro that my friend Ely recommended. As per usual, I don’t want to say much about it or spoil anything, but it’s hella creepy. (I don’t even want to put a photo here because I think it’s best to go into it not knowing what it’s about, but as for most shows I recommend, it’s dark, so check for trigger warnings etc. if needed.)
I also watched Happy Death Day earlier this month, which critics describe as a combo of Groundhog Day meets Scream, so it’s not surprised I liked it.
What were some of your favorite things in February? Find any cool new blogs, recipes, vegan makeup, etc.? Let me know in the comments!
