Travel/Events
I got back from Disney World in the beginning of June, and I wrote a post about all of the vegan and gluten free food options I found there (and also at Universal Studios). I also watched Lucas compete in the NFF Super Show, which was his first physique competition, and he brought home two medals! It was so cool to see so many vegan athletes competing and winning. ((Vegan bodybuilders actually took home more than 32 medals–this article only accounted for athletes on the Plant Built team and didn’t include Lucas and some other vegan competitors.))
FOOD- RECIPES
Y’all know I love oatmeal, and this month I shared two delicious oatmeal recipes–Peanut Butter Cup Overnight Oats, which tastes like a chocolaty peanut butter dessert, and Golden Milk Oatmeal, which has unique mix of spicy and sweet flavors with turmeric, cinnamon, and apples.
I also shared one of my fave recipes so far–my Creamy Vegan Ranch! My friend Julien says it’s “better than real ranch, I could eat it everyday.” It’s so good with potatoes and veggies! Speaking of dressings, I also tried Luna Lovecow’s Easy Vegan Cesar Salad Dressing, and it’s delicious as well.
I also tried three cookie recipes this month, and my favorite was The Vegan 8’s Best Vegan Gluten-free Chocolate Chip Cookies. While watching Twin Peaks I got mega donut cravings, so I also made Blueberry Baked Donuts from Chocolate Covered Katie multiple times, and like all of her recipes, they came out absolutely delicious.
FOOD- RESTAURANTS
I finally tried BBQ Revolution this month, and the tempeh ribs and smokey curls were delish! I also tried the Shiitake Tofu at Koriente, and it was tasty as well.
This one has been a favorite for a while, but I haven’t mentioned it on here yet–Sweet Ritual Vegan Ice Cream. They have so many amazing flavors, a ton of gluten free options (including gluten free cones), and they even have edible glitter! If you haven’t been there yet, do it ASAP!
BEAUTY
When I got back from Disney World, I posted my Travel Makeup Essentials, which includes a lot of the vegan and cruelty free beauty products I’ve been loving lately. I recently found a new go-to foundation, the Cover FX Total Cover Cream Foundation (I’m N20.) It has good coverage, it doesn’t dry out or irritate my skin, it’s long lasting, and it has SPF 30. It also has a wide variety of shades. If you have normal/dry or even combination skin, I’d definitely recommend trying a sample from Sephora. If you have oily skin it may not be the best option though because it is creamy and gives a bit of a dewy finish.
TV
My favorite show in June was definitely Twin Peaks. Lucas and I started watching the original and were instantly hooked. The cheesy music, the creepy small town, the strange characters, the constant stream of coffee and donuts, the dark, dream-like feel–it’s so good! Sadly though the show went downhill halfway through season 2. We’ve started watching the new season though as well, and it’s incredible. I don’t want to say much about it, but it’s definitely one of the best and most thought provoking shows I’ve ever seen! If you’ve seen it and want to nerd out about it/discuss theories, let me know.
Another one of my fave shoes this month was Riverdale–I love the Archie comics characters, the murder mystery, and dark retro feel. Jughead is my fave! I can’t wait for the new season to come out.
MISC.
Fitness wise, I’ve been training some with Lucas at Bonebreaker Barbell (a hardcore, motivational gym in Austin that’s vegan owned!) If you haven’t checked it out yet, you should!
I also found and loved Genesis Butler’s TED Talk about veganism–I definitely recommend watching it! I wish I was that cool when I was 10 years old. 🙂
