I’ve been meaning to try out the semi-new vegetarian spot Citizen Eatery ever since Lazy Smurf wrote about it, and I finally did this week with my friend Laura and shot some photos to share with y’all.
Laura and I took forever to decide what to order because everything sounded so good, and there were so many options. Most of the menu is vegan, with the exception of breakfast egg dishes and a couple of other options that are clearly labeled as not vegan. They also have many gluten free and paleo options.
We ended up getting the vegan chorizo nachos to start, which featured sweet potato chips with guacamole and vegan chorizo.
I ordered the Smoked Green Chile burger with a house-made white bean and veggie pattie with a gluten free bun and a side of their Texas Tumbleweed veggie noodle fries (the server said they would roll around in them if they could so that seemed promising, lol), and both the burger and the fries were delicious!
Laura opted for the Citizen Power Bowl which had avocado, marinated kale, chickpeas, quinoa, almonds, sunflower seeds, tomatoes, red pepper, and a citrus vinaigrette. She liked it, but after trying some of my burger she said she should’ve gone with the burger too because it’s really good. Lesson learned: never order a salad! Just kidding. Kind of.
Of course we had to get some Joe too since we both run on coffee. They don’t have lattes or fancy coffee drinks, but they have Third Coast Coffee Italian Roast (my favorite coffee!) as well as Third Coast cold brew and coconut milk.
We ended up sitting and talking for a while, and the space was pretty with a lot of natural light, and the servers were really helpful.
Although I don’t go eat up North super often, I definitely want to go to Citizen Eatery again and try out their breakfast/tofu scramble next time! Have you been there? What’d you get/what did you think? Let me know in the comments!
