If you haven’t heard of M.O.T.D. Cosmetics yet, they make super cute all vegan and cruelty free ((Logical Harmony approved)) make up brushes–I’ve had their full set of Lux Vegan Makeup Brushes for almost a year now and want to share my thoughts on them with y’all. (If you’re interested in trying them, you can get 15% off with my affiliate code “pennysportal”!)
Although I went vegan food-wise basically overnight, switching to all cruelty free/vegan makeup and products took a little longer. For a while, my vegan brush collection consisted of a couple of old brushes I had that happened to be synthetic and a few miscellaneous brushes I picked up at the drugstore.
Enter M.O.T.D. and their gorgeous black and rose gold synthetic makeup brushes. Each brush has a cute punny name that hints at how to best use it–for example the Beauty and the Base brush is for base/foundation, Just Browsing for brows, Eye Catching Crease for your crease…you get the idea.
I had been considering ordering the Lux Vegan Set set for awhile and finally made the plunge when I saw they were having a birthday sale (thanks for the heads up Andy!), and I’m so glad I did because I love having a cohesive full set of high quality brushes!
The Lux Vegan Makeup Brush set comes with 15 gorgeous brushes made with synthetic vegan taklon bristles–they’re so soft and easy to work with. I use almost all of the brushes often, but some of my favorites are the Beauty and the Base, Set and Go, Just Browsing, Miss Shady Lady, and Blending Bestie. The only ones I don’t reach for as much are Pick Up Line (I use Kat Von D Tattoo Liner instead), Straight to the Point (I reach for Just Browsing instead), and Supermodel Sculpt (I don’t contour that much/often.)
Although I’ve been wearing makeup since I was like 11, I don’t consider myself a makeup guru or anything like that (I don’t think you have to be a makeup artist/expert to enjoy makeup), and honestly the M.O.T.D. brush names help me out. While obviously you can use the brushes for things other than their names suggest, I think it’s cool that they each have a name and designation…and I’m a sucker for puns!
As far as standing the test of time, most of my brushes are still in great condition, and the names seem to be almost stamped into the handles, so none of them have rubbed off like some other brushes I have. The only issue I have is that the rose gold part is a little loose now on two of my most used brushes–Set and Go and Just Browsing.
I clean my M.O.T.D. brushes as I do all of my brushes–by gently rubbing them on a bar soap, lathering them up until they’re clean, and rinsing them (as they shown in their video on their website.)
The Lux Vegan Set also comes with a white canvas bag with rose gold faux leather, and while it’s lovely and I and use it when traveling, I would’ve preferred an all rose gold or rose gold with black bag since white gets/looks dirty when stored with other makeup.
I love my M.O.T.D. brushes and am so glad I invested in the full set! They’re so soft, and I love their aesthetic and the fun names on each brush. I think the Lux Vegan Set would be an awesome gift as well. If you want to try them, don’t forget to use my affiliate code pennysportal for 15% off!
