The Beer Plant is one of the few vegan sit down restaurants in Austin–it has a hip and cozy feel, and in addition to their plant based lunch/dinner/brunch menus, they also have fancy cocktails and of course, beer.
The first I tried The Beer Plant was on my birthday last year–I got the Blacksmith Burger, which features smoked ancient grains, green leaf lettuce, Texas tomatoes, pickles, onions, ailoi, and is so good I even tried recreating it at home as well. As my friend Julien says, “it will haunt your dreams.” (I featured it on my 2017 Top 10 Favorite Vegan Dishes in Austin of 2017 list.)
I’ve been back a few times since, and every time I’m tempted to branch out and try something new, but I always go for the Blacksmith Burger with cheese on a gluten free bun because it’s so good! The last time I went was with Lucas on Valentine’s Day, and we both got the burgers as well as their Black Truffle Fries with truffle oil, brazil nut parmesan, and garlic aioli, which were amazing. They reminded us of the truffle fries we used to get at Hopdoddy before going vegan, but better!
I’ve also been to The Beer Plant for brunch–check out my post for photos. My plate at brunch was good, but I have to admit some of their best sounding brunch plates are unfortunately not gluten free (Chik’n & Waffles, Carrot Lox, Biscuits & Gravy, Everything Bagel).
I do wish The Beer Plant had even more gluten free options–I would love to try their Buffalo Cauliflower, Mac N Cheese Skillet, and/or Eggplant Parmesean, and I wish they had more gf brunch options like some gluten free pancakes or waffles.
If you’re in Austin, I definitely recommend trying out The Beer Plant! The food is delicious, and the restaurant is cute as well.
