Update July 2020: I’m no longer using LXMI Nilotica Melt or KVD Vegan Beauty Tattoo Eyeliner. (I don’t like the feeling of heavy moisturizers anymore, and I’m currently using the NYX Epic Ink Liner because it’s similar to the Tattoo Eyeliner, and it’s less than half the price.) Hourglass Caution is still my favorite mascara though! And I still use the Cover FX Dewy Finish Setting Spray sometimes.
I’ve been on a makeup/beauty low buy in 2019; so far I’ve only purchased beauty items I ran out of (or almost ran out of.) I’m trying to be more conscious of my purchasing for multiple reasons–to save money, to ensure I’m able to use up products before they expire, to reduce my environmental impact/plastic consumption. I will buy new products at some point, but I’m making an effort to really think about if I need something before I buy it. So I thought I’d share with you the few vegan and cruelty free makeup/beauty products I have bought in 2019 since they’re all repeat purchases/favorites.
- Hourglass Caution Mascara: I got a travel size of the Hourglass Caution Mascara towards the end of 2018, and it immediately became my favorite vegan mascara I’ve tried–it gives both length and volume, and it doesn’t smudge. It’s pricey, but I bought the travel size, and it lasted for 3+ months before drying out (and you’re supposed to get rid of mascara after 3-6 months anyways), so I’ll continue to purchase and use the travel size.
- LXMI Nilotica Melt: Check out my review for more details on the LXMI Nilotica Melt, but to summarize it’s pure, high quality shea butter, and I use it as a night time moisturizer on my face and lips. I ordered two more tubes of it because it was on sale, and it’s a staple for my dry skin, and that’ll probably last me all year because you only need a small amount.
- Cover FX Dewy Finish Setting Spray: I ran out of this setting spray for a while and tried to use a different Milani one I was gifted, but I missed it too much and re-ordered it. I love this setting spray because it makes my dry skin look glowy and refreshed, and I noticed my makeup looked lackluster without it.
- Kat Von D (Now called KVD Vegan Beauty) Tattoo Eyeliner in Trooper: This has been my go-to liquid eyeliner for years now, and I still haven’t found anything that compares in both ease of use and staying power (I’m a cry-baby so I like eyeliner to be waterproof and stay put). I’d love to find something less expensive though because the pens don’t last very long, so if you know of anything similar, please let me know! (I recently tried a Physician’s Formula because I heard it was similar, but it wasn’t as dark/black and didn’t stay on as well.)
Do you do periods of makeup/beauty no-buys or low buys? Do you have any favorite vegan makeup products that you’ve repurchased lately? Let me know in the comments!
