*Update: Doggie Style is no longer operating.
Doggie Style is an all vegan hot dog truck in the South First food court in Austin. I admire their bold name choice, and I appreciate that they now have gluten free hot dogs! I’m not sure when they added them to the menu–the last time I was there was last summer for their hot dog eating contest (Lucas won second place!) and at that time they didn’t have them as an option.
When ordering, they let me know that they cook with vital wheat gluten (which is what the regular dogs are made from), so gluten cross contamination can still occur. I don’t have Celiac and am fine as long as I don’t straight up eat gluten, so that’s fine for me, and I’m glad they have the option!
The gluten free dog is made from whole foods and is softer than most vegan hot dogs– it had a nice flavor, and the gluten free bun was good as well. I don’t think I’ve ever been able to order a vegan hot dog at a restaurant/food trailer actually because they’re almost always made from seitan/gluten, so I’m so excited I can now! I ordered the Walking Taco because anything with Fritos is a good idea if you ask me.
Julien got a regular walking dog as well (which he said was better than meat hot dogs which are “gross and slimey” lol) and we got fries and chips and queso. The queso was more like a dip than queso to us but still tasty.
I’m excited to go back and try all of the various vegan hot dog options at Doggie Style–have you been there? What’s your favorite hot dog to order? Let me know in the comments!
