When I was asked if I wanted to try out the new vegan Beyond Meat option at Freebirds, of course my answer was yes! I think it’s so cool to see chain restaurants adding more vegan options, and I was especially excited when I heard that the new vegan option is Beyond Meat mixed with Mexican spices and potatoes–y’all know how much I love potatoes!
Since I avoid gluten I opted for nachos instead of a burrito, and they loaded them up with the Beyond Meat & potatoes, beans, rice, veggies, pico, corn salsa, and lettuce. Lucas was with me and got a Monster burrito with the Beyond Meat option as well, of course.
The employee making my nachos told us that they have a vegan friend who adds tomatillo sauce instead of queso, so I got that as well as the creamy jalapeno dressing which they also assured me is vegan (and gets it’s creaminess from roasted garlic rather than dairy). The employee was so nice and helpful and knew all of the vegan options–yay!
Lucas and I both really enjoyed our meals–the Beyond Meat option was quite tasty, and we bet that a meat eater probably wouldn’t be able to tell the difference from ground animal beef especially when mixed with beans and rice and everything else in a burrito. And of course I LOVE that they mixed it with potatoes–yum!
I used to love Freebirds when I was in college (before I was vegan and gluten free), but I mostly stopped going after becoming vegan–I tried the tempeh option they had a couple of times but wasn’t a huge fan. I like the new Beyond Meat and potatoes option way better, so I really hope they decide to keep it on the menu permanently!
If you haven’t tried Freebirds new Beyond Meat option–get on it! Hopefully with enough demand they’ll keep it on the menu. And maybe someday they’ll even add vegan queso and a vegan/gluten free burrito option…a girl can dream!
Have you tried the Beyond Meat option at Freebird’s? What did you think? Let me know in the comments!
