Wait a second…not all condoms are vegan?!
Unfortunately no–many mainstream latex condoms and barriers contain casein, a milk protein, and are not vegan friendly. Luckily there are quite a few vegan friendly condom and barrier options to choose from–here’s a handy list!
There are various levels of how vegan a product or company is depending on if they test on animals, carry other products that aren’t vegan etc.–for this list, I’m considering any barriers that do not contain animal ingredients as vegan friendly possibilities, but I’ll also list any certifications brands have as well.
Condoms–Latex
Glyde–The Vegan Society and PETA approved. Ethical, vegan, and fair trade brand with outreach programs. They offer Ultra Thin Standard Fit, Maxi Large/XL, Slimfit, and flavored condoms.
Sustain— Vegan Awareness Foundation certified and fair trade. They have standard, Comfort Fit, & Tailored Fit options.
L.–I couldn’t find any information on any vegan certifications, but they’re described as vegan (and I’ve seen them at Austin’s vegan grocery store, so I’m assuming they are). Also offers a monthly condom subscription.
Royal Condoms–I hadn’t heard of these before, but I found them when searching for this post. Advertised as cruelty free and vegan and gluten free. They have standard and flavored options.
My Size–This is another brand I hadn’t heard of but saw online recently. They’re advertised as vegan friendly.
Kimono–Advertised as vegan (but not certified). Widely available. They have various sizes and options.
B. Condoms– Not advertised as vegan but say they are in the FAQ section of their website.
*Sir Richard’s— AVA certified, Peta & Logical Harmony approved. These were a popular vegan condom brand for years, but it seems like they aren’t around anymore? (You can’t buy condoms directly from their website anymore at least, though it appears there are still some on Amazon.)
UK Brands:
Fair Squared— Vegan Society certified. Offers a non-lubricated variety.
Condoms–Non Latex
Lifestyles SKYN are made of Polyisoprene instead of latex and don’t contain casein. They’re widely available and are a good option for people with latex sensitivities. (Other Lifestyles condoms besides SKYN are not vegan friendly though so keep that in mind.) There are also other non-latex options like Durex Avanti-Bare.
Dental Dams
Glyde makes flavored vegan latex dental dams. There used to be a brand called Hot Dams that made unflavored non-latex dams, but they’re not around anymore, and I don’t know of any unflavored ones anymore (let me know if you know of any!)
Gloves
Instead of using latex gloves, which may contain casein, stock up on nitrile gloves instead.

Do you have a favorite vegan condom brand? Am I missing anything? Would you like me to expand on this and include vegan friendly lubricants, toys, etc? Let me know in the comments.
