Vegan (& Gluten Free) Brunch at Counter Culture in Austin

July 9, 2018 By Penny

When my friend Nicole said she wanted to try lots of vegan food while visiting Austin from Dallas, I was pumped–I love it when friends want to go to vegan places with me! One of the meals we had was brunch at Counter Culture, an all vegan sit down restaurant with a mid century flair on East Cesar Chavez that serves delicious comfort food.

Nicole is an omnivore and hadn’t tried any kind of vegan eggs but wanted to try some, so she ordered the Migas Tacos made with chickpea flour and a gf chocolate chip pancake that was one of the specials. I got a chocolate chip pancake as well because how could I not (not many places have pancakes that are vegan and gluten free!) as well as the Tofu Benedict special on a gluten free muffin. “Eggs” Benedict is another thing I rarely find that’s vegan/gluten free (I don’t know if I’ve ever found it before actually), so I was excited about it.

Nicole and I both loved the chocolate chip pancakes, which was especially impressive since they were gluten free (and Nicole isn’t vegan or gluten free). Just look at that vegan butter plop. Nicole liked her tacos too even though she was a little skeptical about them at first, and I loved the Benedict special–it was all such a treat. We both enjoyed some refreshing watermelon, pineapple, and lime juices as well.

Brunch at Counter Culture was delicious (and omnivore approved)! I can’t believe I hadn’t been there in so long, I’m definitely going to try to get brunch there more often. I really appreciate how many gluten free options and specials they have–hooray for vegan and gluten free pancakes! It’s a plus that it’s quite an instagrammable spot as well.

Have you tried Counter Culture? What are some of your fave places to get vegan brunch? (In Austin or anywhere–I will travel for good vegan food!) Let me know in the comments!
