One of my favorite things about traveling is trying new vegan food, so when I was in San Antonio visiting family for Thanksgiving, I had to scope out and try some new (to me) places, even though I wasn’t in town for long.
Since I was with non-vegan family, I was looking for omnivore friendly restaurants that have tasty vegan options–I used Happy Cow, an app that shows you vegan/vegetarian restaurants nearby as well as restaurants with vegan options.
The first place we tried was Snooze, a breakfast chain with vegan options (there’s a location in Austin too.) I got the Snooze Classic veganized, with tofu scramble instead of eggs, soyrizo as my meat, hash browns, and sourdough toast (no butter) with jelly, and coffee with soy milk. Everything was flavorful and the whole dish was quite filling–I love a hearty breakfasts and this one didn’t disappoint. Everyone else enjoyed their non-vegan food too–yay!
For lunch we went to The Dogfather–a local hot dog restaurant that features a Vegan Frito Pie hot dog–it was a treat to get such a fun option complete with vegan chili and cheese as well as Fritos and guacamole. For a minute I was skeptical if I would be able to finish it…but of course I did!
The side options are vegan friendly too, and I also split fried pickles with my sister and also tried some of the curly fries and tots–they were all delicious. The only thing that would’ve made the fried pickles even better would be a vegan ranch option (spicy mustard or ketchup are the vegan dipping options.)
Have you been to Snooze or The Dogfather? What are some of your vegan friendly restaurants in San Antonio, Texas? Let me know in the comments! I’ve tried Earth Burger and Viva Vegeria too (both are all vegan).
